The Friends of Serpent Mound presents Archaeology and Ohio Geology Day
Saturday, September 6, 2014
Many years ago there was an Annual Archaeology Day that was held on Labor Day Weekend. Then a few years ago FOSM brought it back, but we found that having it the weekend after Labor Day was better attended.
Amateur archaeologist and members of multiple Chapters of the Archaeological Society of Ohio will be exhibiting an array of artifacts: Ohio Paleo, Ft. Ancient, Prehistoric Flint & Stone from across the North American Continent, Mixed surface finds, and Woodland artifacts from the Liberty Earthworks farm.
Some local collectors that attended last year were Robert Crawford, Dale Bailey, Martin O’Madden, Adams Batson, John Barnhart, Allen Journey, Ken Sowards, and Gary Argabright. Bill Pickard from the Ohio Historical Connection - Archaeology Department is available to identify the public’s unknown artifacts. There will also be representatives from the Ohio Dept of Natural Resources & Geological Survey and Robert Converse, Director of Archaeological Society of Ohio.
There will be no selling or trading of artifacts on park grounds.
Last year’s event was in memory of the late Charlie West.
Jim McKenzie is providing tours to view the
Serpent Mound Crypto Explosion Area (Crater) from 1:00-1:30 and from 3:00-3:30.
